Announcing a Full Denture Treatment for Advanced Cases Using Maxillomandibular Simultaneous Impression
- To be announced during the 27th Annual Academy of Gnathology and Occlusion Research Conference held on June 21, 2009 -

This press release is to inform the media that Shigeru Inaba, former gerodontology professor at Nippon Dental University and current advisor at Inaba Dental Clinic (location: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo; director: Yuriko Inaba) is to announce a full denture treatment method "maxillomandibular simultaneous impression method" for patients with advanced case ailments such as non-institutionalized elderly people, numbness related to aftereffects of cerebrovascular disease, or TMJ arthrosis on June 20th and 21st, 2009, at the 27th Annual Academy of Gnathology and Occlusion Research Conference to be held at the Tokyo International Forum (a 1-minute walk from Yurakucho Station).

Ideal full dentures are made by taking a mold of the teeth in the closed-mouth position that comes most natural while eating food. However, currently 'mold making' for full dentures is done by taking separate molds of the upper and lower bite. One of the many downsides to this method is that should the dentures not fit correctly, the patient must make many trips (6 - 10 times) to the dental clinic for adjustments.

The treatment method to be announced at this event conduct 'mold making' on the upper and lower jaw together and dentures are completed in only 3 visits to the dental clinic. By making a mold of the upper and lower jaw at the same time in the closed mouth position, it is possible to accomplish the once difficult task of reconstructing the shape of the muscles, tongue, and lips using the patient's own strength which allows for the creation of highly precise dentures.

Moreover, conventional dentures are known to hinder grinding, protrusion of the tongue, and smiling, but through the use of esthetically and functionally superior prosthetic teeth made by Strack design*, patients will have no problem grinding with their teeth and extending their tongue. This opens the door to uninhibited and enjoyable dining.
Also, the wider you open your mouth the stronger the muscle supports your dentures so you can smile as big and as brightly as you please worry free.

As you age and lose your teeth, the base of your mouth becomes lower as if it is crushing in on itself. With the new system "maxillomandibular simultaneous impression method" the base of your mouth is restored to normal as if you still had all of your teeth. Patients who have been treated with this method are always pleased to regain a youthful look and many say it has an 'anti-aging' effect because their youthful facial shape is restored. "The maxillomandibular simultaneous impression method" has enjoyed positive results and can be used to treat patients with advanced cases.

Moreover, at Shigeru Inaba's own study group that he has been running for 15 years, IPSG, dentists and dental technicians will be present with patients for 2 days, from the time that patients undergo their initial examination until they can actually put in their own dentures. Finally, this research conference provides periodic opportunities for patients to sit down and dine with dentists and dental technicians.

*What is Strack design?
Dr. Strack researches and develops prosthetic teeth based on careful consideration of jaw movements. His designs highly respect the anatomical shape of natural teeth.
